As we have thought about how we might incorporate the use of vlogging into the classroom as a means to track student progression we have concerns regarding safety.

We would need to ensure that all students and parents are comfortable with filming one’s self. Would these students be okay with using youtube? Or does that not work because of privacy policies? We need to do some research as far as understanding how servers work within schools and the agreements that would need to be reached with parents and admin. As suggested by Rich, we’ve looked into using Videoant (https://ant.umn.edu), although we’re still unsure if that’s the best mode of producing digital vlogs. What we like about Videoant is that it provides the ability to annotate videos and essentially start a discussion on the videos themselves, a tool that could be incredibly useful as teachers.

If students and or parents do not feel comfortable videotaping then we can offer the use of blogs and photos as an alternative.

Another concern we have is about accessibility. We cannot be certain that elementary students have access at home to phones/Chromebooks, etc. As such we need to ensure that as educators if we plan to implement vlogging in our classroom, we need to provide time and the tools for our students to do so.
